Should inmates and convicted people get the same rights as we do while they serve their jail time? Should they be allowed to vote? Should they be allowed to have luxories?

How about a poll to allow people to vote on the subject?

I am up for that. However I am unsure how to go about adding the poll in. I cannot seem to find the edit button so I can add it in to my original post.

The question is: Should inmates and convicted felons deserve the same rights and freedoms (ie: allowed to vote, watch TV, surf the internet, etc.), as non-incarcerated individuals?

The constitution I believe states that your rights can not be suspended unless you commit certain crimes that put you away into jail. SO they should not have rights. If they can not figure out that rape and murder is wrong, why should they be allowed to vote?

There are some that says these people should get rights no matter what. But I believe if you can rape a girl and then chop her to pieces that you do not even deserve to live let alone have rights.

I don't think that people who commit serious crimes such as killing should be given any rights at all. They need to be taught a lesson for causing so many people pain and grief because of their actions. Why should they get to vote or have a bunch of luxuries that people who don't commit murder have. If they are given the same rights as outside of jail what is the point of even sending them there in the first place?

I don't think that they deserve rights either. If they committed a crime worse enough to get them into jail why do they deserve and luxuries or the ability to vote. They shouldn't be given any rights in jail as part of their punishment for committing a crime.

I do not believe they should have rights, nor do I believe they should have their rights restored once they serve their sentence. Once convicted, they are a forever a felon in my book and that is not easily forgiven. Let them live peaceably once their time is served, but a snake is still a snake...

Well they are in jail for a reason. And by law if you commit such crimes you do give up your rights, so why should we give them what they do not deserve. Notice only the Democrats try to...

I think that before you have a poll on the matter, you should investigate it. What kind of rights are you talking about removing? Last I knew no where in the US can anyone incarcerated vote. Depending on the crime, they may not have guns either. Probation/parole makes it tougher. In some states you can't vote while on parole or probation. In some you can. Research matters an awful lot.
Tartan, you say a snake is still a snake. If anything is cruel and low, it's that comment. Each case history is unique. Someone like Charlie Manson clearly is an evil man. But htere are others that are certainly far from evil, and just because they may be felons does not in any way means they are in fact guilty or that they did whatever it is they were convicted of. Tim Masters in Boulder Colorado is a perfect example. He spent years in prison for a murder he didn't commit. So now he's a snake? Really? What if we put you away for a few years accusing you of a crime you didn't commit? Guess you'd be a snake, wouldn't you?
Tartan and others, judging others is a double edged sword. You may injure them emotionally doing so, but however you judge them can always come back and bite you.
You truly have no right to complain of being a victim when you yourselves victimize others. Judging them when you know little to nothing about them or what they did/did not do makes you no better than them and it really is a form of victimization.

Should inmates and convicted people get the same rights as we do while they serve their jail time? Should they be allowed to vote? Should they be allowed to have luxories? Those who commit violent crimes should never see the light of day, let alone vote or have any kind of luxories!
