I was assaulted on September 19, 2006. I was punched twice and fell down a flight of stairs. It went to court and the person was found guilty. However, there were several other assault charges on him in another county and they sent him away for more trials and for sentencing. The person was seen a short time after that, which tells me that he never went to jail or anything. I tried calling to find out what he was sentenced, but they say they can not tell me. I was working two jobs before this. After the assault, my manager at one job told me that my job was appearance based so not to come back. The attorney general's victims of crime office had me fill out an application for lost wages, medical and other aid. The medical was turned down because they said I am eligible for low-income medical assistance. Of course, it took so long for them to tell me that now it has been too long for the low-income medical assistance. As for the lost income, they contacted my place of employment and asked them about discriminating against me based on appearance and the place of employment said they did not tell me that. Since it was my word against theirs, I was awarded lost income for the month I was on medical leave. This place of employment has put a black mark on my name for them going through an investigation for discrimination. It has been over a year and I still can not find work because of this black mark. I decided to get unemployment benifits as the attorney general's office told me to. I went from working two jobs making $500 or more per week after taxes to making $132 a week after taxes. I finally got a job, but it was part time and it was seasonal. I worked for a couple of weeks and then it was over. There was a mix up in the unemployment claims. I claimed the wrong pay from this job on the wrong weeks or I missed a week of pay or something. I recieved a letter today stating that they want $852 payed back and I may lose my unemployment.
It is messed up how I was a victim over a year ago and yet it feels as if I am still being victimized. Is there any help out there besides the attorney general's office? Does anyone have any advice or help for finding a job?

It sounds to me like the person who is to blame for all this crap is the man who assaulted you in the first place. Have you checked into possibly filing a civil suit against your attacker for damages and lost wages, not to mention the grief?

The attorney general's victims of crime office gave me lost wages for the month I was on medical leave. Since they gave me this little bit of help, I am unable to sue my attacker. Since the victims of crime office gave me what little help they did, they hold the rights to go after my attacker for damages.

I'm not sure what other legal action you will be able to take against your attacker at this point. Prior to signing anything or taking any kind of settlement for damages, it is always recommended to consult legal council prior to signing.

True. I do not see very many options against the person who assaulted you. I would recomend looking into some things about the job problems but besides that I am sorry.
