Do we ever learn not to drink and drive after we have had that first DUI? Some, maybe not, unfortunately....
I finally did "wise up" and just before middle age, I quit drinking altogether. This was the best move I ever made. Not only am I in better shape, but I don't have to "pray over the porcelain God" any more!
I don't disapprove of drinking all together, I did my share of it!!
Social drinking with a designated driver is not a bad proposition when the alternative might be death.

People think they are invincible and thats the problem. They feel as if they can't be part of the statistics. Too many people are dying due to people driving drunk and this has to be cracked down on.

Too many people think that alcohol doesn't affect their driving. Just a few weeks ago, I had a guy drive drunk to the ER for treatment. He got tired of waiting and wanted his keys back to drive home. He was like "well, I'm a better driver drunk than most people are sober". Sad. I bet a lot of people think that way.

People do realise that being drunk can effect their driving ,but they don't know that when they're drunk. They think that they're not drunk or that this can't possibly happen to them.

My stepfather learned not to drink and drive only after nearly killing a 5 year old. I never drink and drive NEVER. It in't worth the risk.

It's sad it takes a tragedy like that for someone to learn. Unfortunately, that is the way a lot of people learn... the very, very hard way.
The sad thing is though... it could all be prevented.
I don't disapprove of drinking at all either. I just don't understand how hard it is to just sleep in your car if you have to..or call someone for a ride.

Most people will just keep on drinking and driving. They will drive drunk one time and no accident will occur. That makes them think that they will be fine the next time. That is probably when an accident will occur and it will take a tragedy for them to see the error of their ways.

I am a big supporter of the designated driver. In fact, I've sat out a many night of drinking to be the DD. I don't mind at all. What's that commercial? Arrive alive?

People always wait for the first death to say sorry but it is often too late, I've lost a brother because of one and the driver said "sorry". As if that changed anything...

It saddens me to say that I know a couple of people who have not learned. Not only does it anger me, but it frustrates me. These are people I love, but at the same time....my heart goes out to all of those that have been killed by a drunk driver and I get so angry at the people that I know who are driving around like this and putting innocent people in danger.

It is sad knowing that so many people continue to drink and drive. The best time to think about driving arrangements is BEFORE you drink. If more people planned ahead, it would reduce the casualities caused by this crime. As many of you said already, too many people don't learn (or care) until it directly affects them.
