Are there any high quality support forums out there that are properly moderated and unique?

For survivors of sexual crimes (including child abuse with sexual components, incest, rape in marriage, stranger assault, and many more), I highly recommend Pandoras Box:

My daughter was shot by her ex-boyfriend in October of this year, and while physically she is doing very well, the emotional trauma is over powering us with work, court appearances, etc. I'm looking for some good online support to help in trying to deal with the "aftermath".

I do not think support forums are a good idea. They need professional help, bot strangers from online. Terrible idea...

Hi Sharon Marie,

I am deeply saddened by what your family is enduring,my heart goes out to you and your daughter.

I think that it is extremely important that victims utilize as many different resources as possible for support. The process to becoming a survivor in long and very frustrating. That is the sad truth.

Usually the family and friends of the victim have a terrible load to bare and very often they are frustrated and discouraged with the system and can actually become less helpful to the victim.

Sadly there is no handbook on how to survive a crime and victims are often left with picking up the pieces after the trial is over and forgotten by the public. I think it is very important for victims to reach out for help and support from as many people as they can. It is nice to know what will happen "before it happens" in the court room and during the process to have folks who have personal experience share their experiences to help you cope and learn so that it is more comfortable as it is a miserable experience and often victims feel victimized by the system that was supposed to be helping them.

I remember working with a victim who was so happy that I told her ahead of time that the witness stand jnside the courtroom chair would not move and that it was permanently affixed to the ground, as I remember sitting there myself testifying against a perpetrator and how I felt when I wanted to move the chair back but could not. It is the little things that can mean so much to a victim and their family. An online support system can accomplish this very easily without harming the victim. I believe that utilizing this forum and also other on-line resources is a good thing.

I gave up on most victims support groups. Internet is one thing, but phone or in person? No way! I'm a man. Gotta take it like a man. Gotta get over it. No matter I have nightmares nearly every night. No matter that I have a disability and that makes the nightmares worse. No matter that I don't have the money for counseling, but if I want it I gotta pay for it somehow (which is why I went without for so many years).
