I used to work at Krogers and while I was there I had one of the mentally challenged guys grab me by my neck and push me against the wall. I was scared out of my mind for a minute thinking he was going to hurt me but thankfully one my supervisors saw it and stopped him.
I know the guy is mentally challenged and all but I still do not think it is appropriate of him to act in that way. My supervisors asked me if anything should be done about it and I said no that it was jus a misunderstanding because I felt bad about it.
Hmmm... I have a brother who is mentally challenged, and sometimes it is hard to predict when a mentally challenged person will act in that way. They can be all right for a while, then the next thing you know, they become violent. It really is a tough situation.
One of my costumers was telling me about a similar incident except the guy wasn't mentally challenge. She came in to our store and asked us for some kind of self defense device. We recommended her some of our key chain pepper sprays and a holsters.
I train martial arts so I can handle such situations with as little trauma to everyone's (his and mine) mind, body and soul.
I don't think that being a victim is the only way to ensure the best outcome with no one getting hurt or traumatized...and defending yourself need not be violent in return, just effective.
